Così piace agli ospiti a quattro zampe.
Culinary Usedom
Here you can still find them: real fish sandwiches with freshly caught herring from the
Baltic Sea. Your apartment or private holiday home in Heringsdorf (the name says it all) is located in a gourmet paradise. Here, the small cutters still go out to the Baltic Sea every day to land sustainably caught fish by hand. A specialty of spring is the garfish, which comes to the Baltic Sea only for spawning and otherwise lives in the Mediterranean and Atlantic. The winter months, on the other hand, belong to the Baltic whitefish with its delicious firm flesh. A delicacy whose catch is highly limited. The fresh fish lands immediately after landing at the fish markets or is marinated or smoked. During the Usedom Herring Weeks in April, even more attention is paid to the tasty fish. Those who like it more exclusive will find a large selection of restaurants of all price ranges and tastes. A small selection: Try the herb cuisine at Kulm Eck near your apartment in Heringsdorf, Mediterranean cuisine at Arielle in
Bansin or the brasserie at Ahlbecker Hof in
Ahlbeck. An extraordinary ten-course menu is enjoyed every year on the Saturday after Ascension Day at the pier in Ahlbeck. During a culinary walk on the beach at sunset from Ahlbeck to Bansin, there are ten extraordinary stations, each with a treat prepared by the chefs of the best restaurants on Usedom. Seated at covered tables, you dine in the fine sand of the Baltic Sea beach while the sun sets in the sea. Other highlights include the Garfish Weeks at the port of Freest, the Inventors' Days, and in autumn the Usedom Game Weeks with specialties from the local forests. Those who like to wield the cooking spoon in their own apartment in Heringsdorf will find regular markets with different focuses in all seaside resorts. Larger weekly markets are located in the cities of Greifswald, Wolgast, and Anklam. Regional and seasonal products from farmers and local producers can be found there.
The architecture of the imperial spas and a grandiose nature
In the vicinity of your apartment or private holiday home in Heringsdorf, there are plenty of sights to discover. The starting point and popular meeting place is the prominent pier in Heringsdorf. At over 500 meters, it is the longest pier in Germany. The predecessor building was last destroyed by arson in 1958. Another magnificent pier is located in the district of Ahlbeck. The 280-meter-long bridge dates from 1899. During the filming of the Loriot film Papa ante Portas, it was renovated in the 1990s. The bridge in Bansin is similarly long, but without the magnificent buildings like the other two mentioned. Passenger ships operate regularly between the piers. This allows visits to the other seaside resorts to be combined with a seaside resort hopping by water. The ships sail to Poland to the towns of Swinemünde (Świnoujście) and Misdroy (Międzyzdroje).
The oldest and at the same time most famous building in the town is the so-called White Castle. Built in 1825 by the famous classical architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel as Bülow's lodging house. The builder Bülow had other buildings erected in the vicinity of the Kulm, such as Villa Achterkerke. Stroll along the beach promenade and admire the beauty and elegance of the beach villas built in the 19th century or the famous spa architecture. Some of the buildings contain magnificent salons and gentlemen's rooms. Many villas hide an exciting history of their residents and illustrious guests. The painter Lyonel Feininger, for example, lived in Villa Oppenheim from 1909 to 1912. Stroll past Villa Diana, Villa Augusta, Villa Stadt, and Villa Oechler. All houses here have names. A little further out, in Villa Irmgard, the writer Maxim Gorky cured a pulmonary tuberculosis in 1922. Today, the villa houses a local history museum and a small exhibition in memory of the famous writer. Art enthusiasts will find their money's worth at the Kunstpavillon Heringsdorf. In addition to exhibitions, the architecturally exciting building regularly hosts events, concerts, and readings. In the eponymous main town of the island of Usedom, the harbor festivals with theater performances take place every year. Small but fine, on the other hand, is the private shell museum in Heringsdorf. Another attraction is the Manfred von Ardenne public observatory. Those who want to take a look at distant galaxies will find the opportunity to observe the starry sky through the 25 cm mirror telescope during the summer months. You will notice that there are no churches in the town centers of the newly created seaside resorts. They are located outside the towns, mostly in small forest areas. Nothing here should remind you of everyday life at home and diminish the joys of vacation. The Church in the Woods and the Ahlbecker Church date from the 19th century. The Bansin Church was not completed until the 20th century. Book an apartment with a balcony or a holiday accommodation with a terrace and WLAN according to your personal wishes directly by the sea and visit numerous excursion destinations.
